"The eye (in general) superficial, the ear profound and inventive. A locomotive's whistle imprints in us a whole railway station."
The ear is indeed inventive, that is why the audio needs to be spot on. The audio is often one of the first give aways of a student film. if the audio is perfect for the film the audience invents parts of the world you want them to, if there are holes and mistakes, the inventiveness of the audience can work against you. With my film I am most worried with continuity with in the audio. Continuity in general has been one of my stumbling points. I feel that the background music that will be playing during the party will help with continuity, but there are still some issues. the script jumps in time from one shot to the next, and my dilema is weather to have the background audio jump with the image or have the song simply change resonance and volume as the shot jumps around. A continuous song certainly is less jarring to the ear, but if I keep a continuous song during for the back ground music will it bug or distract people given the fact that the image is jumping in time? Who knows

"a sound must never come to the rescue of an image, nor an image to the rescue of sound"
Film is not a singularity, it has always been (in my life) a dichotamy of sound and image, and the best moments of film that linger in my mind, reminding me of the moments of my life where i was sitting in the theater transfixed and transported by film, use the two sides to immerse the audience in the world of the film. I personally am very attached to films that successfully employ the use of music, not simply as an overlay on the image, but when the music and image are entwined, working with each to create a sum greater than the parts. I strive to marry song to image in my career, but I'm not sure if this will be successfully accomplished in my 4500 film. regardless of what happens this semester I will continue to think of film and image together, especially music and image.
In regards to my final film, the soundscape will encompass music, but simply as a diagenic artifact of the party. I do have one song (Beethoven's Symphony No. 7) serving as somewhat of a theme song for one character.

4500 1
For my 4500 film I will be doing a scene from a feature length piece i have been working on for about two years. The basic plot of the full script is "Three college roommates go on a road trip through the west, and hilarity ensues." I have some footage from the road, my super 8 footage can be seen here
https://vimeo.com/49850057
and some time-lapse footage can be seen here
https://vimeo.com/44201716
https://vimeo.com/24902531
The scene for 4500 will be the emotional climax which takes place in Portland OR. I will explain how the three got to where they are i will make a short intro (about 1 min) using footage from the road.
I also have an image, and I will be interested to see if anyone knows what it is
My biggest challenge right now is figuring out names for my three main characters. so far they are simply the Architect, the Engineer, and the Artist.
Finally, here is a short excerpt from the script.

Inside the bathroom the ARTIST takes his boot off,

The ARTIST leaves the bathroom, and the ARCHITECT enters it. He flosses
his teeth
ARCHITECT
Ahhhhhhhh
Smells his arm pits
ARCHITECT (CONT’D)
ew
and feels hot water in the shower
ARCHITECT (CONT’D)
OOOOOHHHHHHH, yeah
Next the ENGINEER goes to shower with the bong. He shaves
ENGINEER

rips the bong
ENGINEER (CONT’D)
ohhh ho ho
and gets in the hot shower
ENGINEER (CONT’D)

Finally, NIKO goes to shower. he puts two Alka Seltzer in a cup
and inhales the vapors
NIKO
ahhhhhh
looks at his Empire symbol tramp stamp, just now seeing it for
the first time
NIKO (CONT’D)

and enjoys the hot water
NIKO (CONT’D)

tricking your brain

For this first image you have to cross your eyes for the image to become 3-D.make sure your eyes are horizontal, other wise this won't work. A good trick, if you are having trouble focusing, is to tough your finger to you screen right in the middle where the two images meet, then slowly draw your finger straight towards you nose. behind you finger as you do this you should see the two images becoming one, once this happens just move your finger and your eyes should automatically focus.
These were just two separate photos taken approximately 2 inches apart. I happened to have a pair of red and blue 3-D glasses, so i combined these two images and with the wonder of photoshop i created an Anaglyph 3d image. if any of you have the red and blue glasses your should try it out

the main drawback with this version is the loss of colors. Next i tried an Anaglyph photo of a larger object, so I made a picture of my ceiling.
Then i simply did some more 3-D photos of varying style.
These photos differ in their focal points

This image is just the same image twice with the 3-D effect. With glasses it still looks somewhat 3-D, but in a very flat sense.
